El Portal CA sits at 1,939 feet above sea level, a small town that caters to those visiting Yosemite National Park. Right at the western entrance to the park, it offers easy access to tons of recreation both inside and outside Yosemite.

El Portal lies along the Merced River on California Highway 140.

Activities

  • Rafting

  • Hiking
    Just northeast of El Portal is the small town of Foresta. Hike an easy trail out and back to Foresta Falls. If you drive into Yosemite, you can start a terrific hike from Tunnel View to Inspiration Point. This 2.6-mile hike gives you picturesque views.

From El Portal, to enter Yosemite National Park, you simply follow California Highway 140 east towards Yosemite Valley.
