Mist Trail takes you to the top of Nevada Fall. This strenuous hike is worth it for the breath-taking scenery along the way. Read More

  • Spectacular views
  • Various trail options
  • Strenuous hike
  • Fewer people than other popular trails

Overview

Mist Trail is Yosemite's signature hike because it's full of spectacular views, but the trip to Nevada Fall is strenuous, with switchbacks and a steep climb. The plus here is not as many people take this trail for that reason. Mist Trail takes you to the top of Nevada Fall or, alternately, you can take the John Muir Trail, a longer route. Once at the top you can take other trails for further exploration.

Trailhead

The trailhead begins at Happy Isles, shuttle stop #16.

Plan & Prepare

The current in the Merced River can be treacherous, so use caution when near the river. Bears frequent the area, store food in proper containers. Wear appropriate clothing for the waterfall spray. Mist Trail and a portion of John Muir Trail, between Clark Point and the top of the fall, are closed in the winter.
