Visitor Centers

Yosemite National Park has four Visitor Centers. The Valley Visitor Center is located in Yosemite Valley and is the largest and most comprehensive in terms of displays, books, postcards and maps. The Big Oak Flat Information Station, Wawona Information Station and Tuolumne Meadows Visitor Center are open on a more limited basis. The Park also has a Wilderness Center.

Valley Visitor Center

The Valley Visitor Center is open year round and offers natural history displays, audiovisual programs and is staffed with individuals who are happy to answer all your questions. Books and maps are also sold here. Each day, The Spirit of Yosemite, a state-of-the-art, wide-screen, 23-minute film about Yosemite National Park is presented in the newly renovated West Auditorium Theater behind the Valley Visitor Center.

Tuolumne Meadows Visitor Center

The Tuolumne Meadows Visitor Center is only open in the summer. This Visitor Center has exhibits that feature information on area geology, wildflowers, ecology, bears and other wildlife, the human history of the area and wilderness etiquette.

Big Oak Flat Information Station

Located on the Big Oak Flat Road the Big Oak Flat Information Station has knowledgeable National Park Service Rangers and Yosemite Association staff on hand to answer any questions you may have. Books, maps and wilderness permits are also available. Only open in the summer, its hours of operation vary.

Wawona Information Station

Wawona Information Station is located at Hill's Studio near the Wawona Hotel and the Pioneer Yosemite History Center in Wawona. The station provides information on interpretive programs and park activities. Books, maps and wilderness permits are also available. Hours vary and this center is only open during the summer.

Wilderness Center

Located in Yosemite Village the Yosemite Valley Wilderness Center is a one-stop location for backpackers as it offers wilderness permits – which are required for overnight wilderness travel - maps, guidebooks and bear-resistant canister rentals, as well other information and equipment for backpacking in the Yosemite National Park Wilderness Area. This facility is usually open from late spring to fall.
