Ribbon Falls

A soaring 1,612 foot plunge is the only way to describe Ribbon Fall at Yosemite National Park. Toppling over the west side of the massive cliff known as El Capitan, this waterfall is the largest single drop in North America; a feat that needs to be seen to be believed.

The highest plunge waterfall in the United States and one of the tallest in the world, coming in at a towering 1,612 feet, Ribbon Falls is quite spectacular and daunting all at once. Although there are no trails to the base or the top of the waterfall, due to the sheer drop of El Capitan, it is easily viewed and reached by car, on foot or by horse.

Ribbon Falls is in its prime during April and June, when the waters reach a peak and it is said that May is the most impressive month of them all. However, it dies off quickly when the summer comes around so summertime tourists may be disappointed.

You can find Ribbon Fall in Yosemite National Park by taking Southside Drive and parking at road marker V14, half a mile east of the Bridalveil Falls turn. Ribbon Fall and Bridalveil are neighbors and sit nearly opposite of each other.
