Where is Yosemite National Park?
Yosemite is located in the central Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, close to the California/Nevada border. Visitors enter Yosemite via California Highway 120 from the east or west, via Highway 41 from the south or Highway 140 from the west. The park lies east of Modesto, California.
What are the closest major cities and distances?
Reno, Nevada is located 179 miles to the north (a 3-hour and 33 minute drive).
Sacramento is 173 miles northwest of the park (a drive of about 3 hours and 36 minutes).
San Francisco is 193 miles distant and takes about four hours to drive to Yosemite.
Los Angeles is 340 miles away (about a 6-hour drive).
Where are the closest airports and distances?
The closest airport to Yosemite National Park is the Fresno-Yosemite International Airport, about 90 miles from the Wawona South Entrance. Some airlines that serve this airport are Continental, Frontier, United and Delta. Merced Municipal Airport is 105 miles distant.
What is the average temperature?
Average summer temperatures are in the upper 80s or lower 90s, making for beautiful days to explore the park. Lows at night drop into the upper 40s and 50s. Winter averages consist of highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s, although it can drop below zero at times. For higher elevations, simply subtract about 10 or 20 degrees.
When is the Yosemite National Park open?
Yosemite National Park is open 365 days per year, although some roads close in the winter due to snow from November to May or June.
How much does it cost to enter Yosemite National Park?
If driving a private car, the entrance fee is $20 for each car and includes all occupants. It’s $10 for an individual on foot, horseback, or riding a bicycle or motorcycle. Those 15 years or younger enter free.
Can I bring my pet into the park?
You can bring your pet to Yosemite, but you must keep your pet on a leash at all times, and cannot leave him or her unattended. Pets only are allowed in developed areas, on paved trails and roads and in campgrounds.

There are a total of 13 campgrounds in Yosemite National Park and 8 different lodging facilities, consisting of everything from hotels and lodges to tent cabins.

This park is famous for its spectacular scenery of granite cliffs and plummeting waterfalls, and its Giant Sequoia groves, beautiful alpine meadows and outdoor sports.
Fun Facts:
Yosemite National Park is about the size of Rhode Island and has over 800 miles of hiking trails.
The Tunnel Tree was a famous Giant Sequoia through which a tunnel was cut in 1881. The tree finally fell in 1969 after a heavy snowstorm. It was estimated at that time to be 2,300 years of age.
